Honorary co-chairs Congressmen Hinojosa, Cuellar and Ortiz along with the South Texas Border Business Contracting Expo Planning Committee, are pleased to offer this exciting contracting event to border businesses in the South Texas/Rio Grande Valley. Owners of small and disadvantaged businesses will have the opportunity to meet face-to-face with many federal, state & local agencies and corporate representatives. Bringing together public and private agencies with potential suppliers, as well as prime contractors and subcontractors, the STBBC Expo is sure to build an awareness and increase contract opportunities for border businesses.

The Contracting Expo will be held in the largest MSA of the Rio Grande Valley border region – a booming area with fast-growth prospects. Its “Deep South” location is known for its bi-cultural, Hispanic community, uniquely manifested in its cross-border relations and diverse economy. These characteristics merge to make the Rio Grande Valley a distinctive hub of opportunities for business owners. Quite aware of the flourishing economy, RGV residents continuously engage in business activity with diverse perspectives which give fruition to inimitable, enterprising spirits – a life force all on its own. Come meet these border businesses and help us make this a great event!

For greatest impact to the attendee, the Contracting Expo is comprised of an exhibit hall with federal, state & local agencies and corporate representatives; training tracks on local, state, federal, and corporate contracting; and one-on-one matchmaking sessions. Training and informational sessions include certifications and registrations, successful marketing, obtaining contracts and financing, and many more.

Congressman Rubén Hinojosa (D-TX) represents the 15th Congressional District of Texas. The 15th Congressional District stretches from the Rio Grande Valley to historic Goliad County and the Coastal Bend region. Much of the region is rural; however, Hidalgo and Cameron County are one of the fastest growing metropolitan statistical areas in the country.

In Congress, Rubén Hinojosa is regarded as a champion for the disadvantaged and has distinguished himself as a strong advocate for education, housing and economic development. His primary goal in Congress has been to reduce the chronic unemployment rate in regions of the district. By focusing on developing a highly educated, well-trained workforce, modernizing the local infrastructure including roads and highways, and creating new job opportunities, Congressman Hinojosa has been instrumental in bringing unemployment rates from 22% in 1997 to record lows of 6% in 2008.

Kennedy mold.” The Dallas Morning News says he’s “one of the seven best Texas legislators.” The San Antonio Express-News says, “Cuellar has worked hard and demonstrated an independent nonpartisan mind-set,” and also notes that “Cuellar’s willingness to place his district ahead of his political party is refreshing.”

Born as one of eight children to hard working migrant farm workers in Laredo, Texas, Congressman Henry Cuellar has dedicated his life and career to two decades of public service. Elected to Congress in 2005, Congressman Cuellar is now serving his third term in Congress after serving 15 years as a Texas State Representative and Texas Secretary of State. With five advanced degrees including a master’s degree in International Trade, a degree of Law from Texas A&M University and a PhD. in Government from the University of Texas at Austin, he is also the most degreed member of Congress.
